{"id":2400,"date":"2013-06-19T18:14:53","date_gmt":"2013-06-19T18:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.net\/blog\/?p=2400"},"modified":"2013-06-19T18:14:53","modified_gmt":"2013-06-19T18:14:53","slug":"natura-pet-food-recall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/natura-pet-food-recall\/","title":{"rendered":"Natura pet food recall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/natura-pet-food-recall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2402\" alt=\"natura-pet-food-recall\" src=\"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/natura-pet-food-recall-150x150.jpg\" width=\"182\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a>June 18, 2013 \u2013 Natura Pet Products of Fremont, Nebraska, <a title=\"Natural Pet Recall of June 18, 2013\" href=\"https:\/\/www.californianaturalpet.com\/voluntary_recall\/Natura%20FINAL%20Press%20Release%20061813.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">has today announced<\/a> it is voluntarily recalling specific lots of dry pet food because they may be contaminated with <strong>Salmonella<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The recall includes specific lots of these <strong>brands<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Innova<\/li>\n<li>EVO<\/li>\n<li>California Natural<\/li>\n<li>Healthwise<\/li>\n<li>Karma<\/li>\n<li>Mother Nature<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No canned food is affected by this announcement.<\/p>\n<p>The news of the event has been confirmed in a <a title=\"FDA News Bulletin Updated 6\/18\/2013\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Safety\/Recalls\/ucm357630.htm\" target=\"_blank\">news release posted by the FDA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What Products Are Recalled?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.dogfoodadvisor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/natura-pet-food-recall-480px-6-18-2013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Natura Pet Dog Food Recall\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.dogfoodadvisor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/natura-pet-food-recall-480px-6-18-2013.jpg\" width=\"626\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Where Were They Distributed?<\/p>\n<p>The affected products are sold in bags through\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Veterinary clinics<\/li>\n<li>Select pet specialty retailers<\/li>\n<li>Online in the USA and Canada<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>About Salmonella<\/p>\n<p>Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.<\/p>\n<p>Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n<li>Vomiting<\/li>\n<li>Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea<\/li>\n<li>Abdominal cramping<\/li>\n<li>Fever<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.<\/p>\n<p>Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.<\/p>\n<p>Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.<\/p>\n<p>These products were packaged in a single production facility. During routine FDA testing, a single lot tested positive for the presence of Salmonella.<\/p>\n<p>There have been no reports of pet or human illness associated with this product.
