{"id":2836,"date":"2014-01-18T22:21:41","date_gmt":"2014-01-19T06:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.net\/blog\/?p=2836"},"modified":"2023-04-19T16:44:43","modified_gmt":"2023-04-19T23:44:43","slug":"angel-fund-helps-save-sheba-best-friend-of-ms-patient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.org\/blog\/2014\/01\/angel-fund-helps-save-sheba-best-friend-of-ms-patient\/","title":{"rendered":"Angel Fund Helps Save Sheba, \u2018Best Friend\u2019 of MS Patient"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/SHEBA-1.2014.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2837\" alt=\"SHEBA 1.2014\" src=\"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/SHEBA-1.2014-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>In December, 2012, Linda Leek was grooming her \u201cbest friend,\u201d Sheba, a beautiful white and gray cat with streaks of brown, when she found a lump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWhen I touched it she would kind of flinch,\u201d Linda said. \u201cEvery time I would touch her in that area she would not bite me but put her mouth on me like \u2018if you do it I will bite you\u2019 \u2013 a warning sign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Linda took Sheba to Beverly Virgil Animal Hospital, which is not far from her apartment in Los Angeles\u2019 Koreatown.\u00a0 Dr. Seong K. Kim examined Sheba and determined that she needed surgery. He performed the operation and spayed Sheba. Sheba was in the hospital two days. \u201cHe just took really good care of her,\u201d Linda said. \u201cThe surgery had to be done. I found out later that the tumor was malignant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Linda, who has multiple sclerosis, lives on Social Security disability benefits and has little extra money to spend. A friend paid the cost of the initial office visit and Angel Fund and the hospital took care of the rest. Linda is grateful for the help she received.<\/p>\n<p>Since her surgery, Sheba has resumed her role as Linda\u2019s best friend.\u00a0 The two expect to have many more years together. \u201cShe has her good days and her bad days,\u201d Linda said, \u201cjust like me.\u201d A couple of months ago, Sheba added another member to the household.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomebody in the building threw a kitten out in the street outside our apartment and Sheba went out and brought it in,\u201dLinda said. \u201cIt was really surprising because it\u2019s just been me and her for 12 years. And she didn\u2019t allow other cats around. She went out and rescued that kitten and I\u2019m like, \u2018well o.k., I guess we have another cat.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The black and white kitten looks like Figaro, the kitten from Pinochio, and
