And I go in there and try to catch\u00a0 \u2018em as fast as I can.\u00a0 I pick up a black one. Then I see this little critter running across with no eyes \u2013 his eyes aren\u2019t even open yet.\u00a0 And I picked him up and put him in my pocket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Henderson took the tiny feline home, bottle fed him and nurtured him \u2013 and named him Critter. \u201cI think he was a little retarded.\u00a0 He was a male cat who would not fight. All my other male cats were frisky.\u00a0 And this cat would let just anybody beat him up. He would lay down on the ground he wouldn\u2019t fight back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Critter had a wonderful disposition and the two became fast friends.\u00a0 \u201cHis attitude was so great and he was so lovable. He was a lover boy,\u201d Henderson said.<\/p>\n<p>A few years ago, however, Critter developed a mass on his right rear leg. Henderson took the cat to a veterinary hospital.\u00a0 \u201cI kept taking him in because this tumor was growing on his leg.\u00a0 I don\u2019t remember how much it was, 700 bucks or something like that to get that thing cut off.\u00a0 Did it three times, I think, and then finally [in January, 2012] the doctor said, \u2018OK, we will have to cut it [the leg] off.\u2019\u00a0 And I was all upset.\u00a0 Everybody was saying: \u2018Put the cat to sleep. Put the cat to sleep.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy business has not been good for a long time and I haven\u2019t had the funds to take my cats to the vet like I used to.\u00a0 I used to be able to spend thousands of dollars on my cats and it wasn\u2019t a problem.\u00a0 It was great for my heart. But right now it\u2019s a problem: do I want to pay my rent or take my cat to the hospital?<\/p>\n<p>The staff at Crenshaw Animal Hospital and Cat Clinic suggested seeking help from Angel Fund.\u00a0 And a grant was quickly arranged.\u00a0 The fund contributed $500 and so did the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>After the surgery, Critter soon recovered.\u00a0 But he lived indoors and no longer spent much time outside, Henderson said. \u201cHe got around pretty good on three legs and then all of sudden one day he got real sick\u201d and had to be put down.\u00a0 But the surgery \u2013 and Angel Fund \u2013
