\"July.AF\"<\/a> \"jul.<\/a>In January, 2015, Walter \u2013 a beautiful Airdale mix \u2013 got a bloated stomach and collapsed outside his owners\u2019 apartment in Acton.\u00a0 He was rushed to an emergency hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said if we hadn\u2019t gotten there within the next few minutes, he wouldn\u2019t be with us any more,\u201d Shneor Nodelman said. \u201cIf we had come 10 minutes later, they couldn\u2019t have saved him. We got lucky on that one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walter had Gastric Dilation-Volvulus.\u00a0 Surgery was performed to correct the condition and Walter later went home with Shneor and his wife, Nancy.\u00a0 \u201cHe surprised the doctors and recovered very fast,\u201d Shneor said.\u00a0 But a week later, Walter was back in the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what happened,\u201d Shneor said. \u201cAfter we took him home, he started to have pain and he was licking the incision.\u201d He had developed an infection and new surgery was needed.\u00a0 Dr. Katherine Schmidt at AV Veterinary Center in Lancaster performed the operation. \u201cThey had to clean him up and then stitch him up again,\u201d Shneor said.<\/p>\n

But the Nodelmans did not have the money to pay the new bills. Shneor is an electrician, who works part time, and Nancy works in real estate but does not make much money. The Nodelmans came to the United States nearly 15 years ago, emigrating from Israel. Shneor has a sister who lives in Los Angeles and has been in this country since 1994. He and Nancy would have come sooner, he said, but he had to fulfill his military obligation before the Israeli government would permit him to leave. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot nicer here than it is in Israel now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The hospital recommended Angel Fund. \u201cThey were really nice,\u201d Shneor recalled, \u201cvery helpful and understanding. We also got some money to help from other sources.\u201d Angel Fund contributed $442, as did the hospital.<\/p>\n

The Nodelmans are grateful to Angel Fund, the hospital and other donors for the funds that helped make Walter whole again. \u201cHe is fine now,\u201d Shneor said. \u201cHe gained back the weight he lost and he is happy, wagging his tail all the time.
