\"\"<\/a>Tim Genoway, who had not worked in four years, was concerned about his dog, Miss Kallie, earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to two or three veterinarians\u2019 offices and I could see she wasn\u2019t getting any better,\u201d he said.\u00a0 Then I went to a practice in Orange.\u00a0 I was practically out of money and they wouldn\u2019t start treating her condition without any kind of money.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, my dog\u2019s dying here.\u00a0 I know she is.\u00a0 and they would say, \u2018Yeah, I know she is. This is serious but we\u2019ve got to have some kind of deposit.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at my wit\u2019s end. I didn\u2019t know what to do.\u00a0 I made a sign that said I needed help with vet care.\u00a0 somebody came along and mentioned one or two organizations and I called them.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t call me back.\u00a0 One called me back a couple of days later and said they would be willing to help with $200 to $400.\u00a0 So that was a good start.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then he took Kallie to Anaheim Hills Animal Hospital.\u00a0 The doctors there examined the dog \u2013 a small animal who is part miniature Pinscher and part Chihuahua and weighs about six and a half pounds.\u00a0 \u201cThey thought they knew what the problem was [Pyometra],\u201d Tim said, but they were concerned about whether Kallie could be ready to face the needed surgery.<\/p>\n

It was late in the day and the veterinarian told Tim that the hospital closed in 20 minutes and suggested that he and Miss Kallie say goodbye to each other.\u00a0 Fearing the worst, Tim was thinking: \u201cThis is my best friend. I can\u2019t let her go like this. She\u2019s my partner in life. There\u2019s got to be something they can do.\u00a0 Please, let\u2019s not give up!\u201d<\/p>\n

The doctor told him: \u201cWe\u2019ll give it 24 hours and, if she recovers, we\u2019ll go ahead with the surgery.\u00a0 But we can\u2019t promise anything.\u201d\u00a0 The dog was put on an IV about 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

The next morning, Tim got a call from the hospital.\u00a0 The message was positive and he was ecstatic. \u201cShe was doing really good and they said they expected to do the surgery sometime that day, if not the next day.\u00a0 And they said she would likely make it! They said they would check her throughout the day and when they thought she was ready, they would go ahead with the surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n

The surgery was performed about 3 p.m. that day.\u00a0 \u201cThey spayed her and cleaned out all the bad stuff, stitched her up and did a beautiful job. I couldn\u2019t have asked for more.\u201d<\/p>\n

The hospital steered him to Angel Fund, which approved his application and granted him $500, an amount matched by the practice.<\/p>\n

Kallie, he said, weighed barely six pounds when she had the surgery and weighs about have a pound more now.\u00a0 Tim said that she was ready to play the day he brought her home from the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s definitely a very special dog,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cThere\u2019s something about her.\u00a0 I lost my Pitbull in April last year.\u00a0 If she had left this year, that would have been both of my best friends gone.\u00a0 Basically, Kallie\u2019s the only family I\u2019ve got left.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got some cousins but don\u2019t really talk to them too much.\u201d<\/p>\n

He is estranged from his sister and has not spoken to his mother in more than two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys [Angel Fund] are angels.\u00a0 You really, truly are.\u00a0 You are awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it was time to pay his bill at Anaheim Hills Hospital, Tim said, \u201cI took all the money I could put together.\u00a0 But they said, you just need to sign.\u00a0 It\u2019s all taken care of.\u00a0 Talk about the Lord blessing me!\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that he once had a good job and owned a house, then fell on hard times and had not worked for several years. He recently started a job as a security officer at a shopping center in Orange \u2013 and what he hopes will be a fresh start in life with a healthy and happy best friend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
