{"id":4830,"date":"2023-10-23T15:03:08","date_gmt":"2023-10-23T22:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.org\/blog\/?p=4830"},"modified":"2023-10-23T15:03:08","modified_gmt":"2023-10-23T22:03:08","slug":"angel-fund-grant-helps-puff-get-second-intussusception-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.org\/blog\/2023\/10\/angel-fund-grant-helps-puff-get-second-intussusception-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Angel Fund Grant Helps Puff Get Second Intussusception Surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.animalhealthfoundation.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/AF.-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4831\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.3333333333333333;width:261px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When Kyle Costa took his dog to Mar Vista Animal Hospital last May, he was told something he had heard before: Puff, a mixed-breed female who is not yet a year old, was diagnosed with intussusception, a dangerous inflammation of the intestines that is more common in younger animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puff had had surgery for the condition earlier this year.&nbsp; Kyle and his wife Pamela had put together enough money to pay for the first surgery but that was going to be difficult this time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Wendy Brooks suggested to Kyle that he could apply for an Angel Fund grant to help pay the costs.&nbsp; The hospital assisted him with the application and he received $500 in assistance, an amount matched by the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That was a huge help, Kyle said.&nbsp; \u201cAngel Fund definitely got us where we needed to be,\u201d he said.&nbsp; \u201cI didn\u2019t want to let my dog go and, when I had no other options, Angel Fund really helped me out.&nbsp; I\u2019m very glad my dog didn\u2019t have to die.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the staff at the Mar Vista clinic took great care \u201cto make sure we were included in this [Angel Fund] program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He and Pamela rescued Puff last April when she was about two months old.&nbsp; Intussusception can cause blockages and can have other severe complications.&nbsp; It was a relief for both of them when Dr. Brooks\u2019 surgery was successfully completed.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puff is doing very well now, Kyle said.&nbsp; \u201cShe\u2019s really healthy and is full of energy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kyle, Pamela and Puff live in Rancho Park not far from Mar Vista Animal Hospital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Kyle Costa took his dog to Mar Vista Animal Hospital last May, he was told something he had heard before: Puff, a mixed-breed female who is not yet a year old, was diagnosed with intussusception, a dangerous inflammation of the intestines that is more common in younger animals.
