Peanut of the Family

Stacy Green always knew she wanted an Abyssinian cat. When Stacy and her husband got married, they made the precious gift of an Abyssinian kitten to each other. As a couple that worked hard for their money, they were happy to make the investment in their new pure-breed family member whom they promptly named ‘Peanut.’ Already the proud owners of two other cats named Clover and Chloe, Stacy and Ken had two years of pure joy with their cats before some serious health issues arose for Peanut.
Not knowing that Abyssinians can be prone to urinary tract problems, Stacy and Ken fed Peanut the same food they’d been feeding their other cats for years. “We just didn’t know that Peanut might need special food, so we just gave him the same things our other cats had eaten with no problems,” said Stacy.
Unfortunately, Peanut developed problems using his litter box and one day after a trip to see their vet at the Cat Care Clinic, Ken walked through the front door of their home with Peanut, bad news, and a heavy heart. Peanut had a severe urinary tract infection and it would cost $800 to cover the cost of the care Peanut required.
“It was terrible. When Ken told me how much the bill was, we both started crying,” shared Stacy. “I would have cutoff one of my arms for that cat, and I had this horrible choice to make, pay my rent and not be able to take care of Peanut, or pay for Peanut’s surgery and put my family in financial danger.”
Thanks to the staff at the Cat Care Clinic, Stacy and Ken learned about the Angel Fund and discovered that with the fund’s financial help, they would be able to afford to get Peanut the vital attention he needed and meet their other financial obligations. “We thank God for blessings such as this because we really didn’t know how we were going to be able to help Peanut” said Stacy.
Peanut’s convalescence was a worrisome time for the Green family. Peanut ended up needing to stay at The Cat Care Clinic for about five days. “It was as if our baby was at the hospital,” remembered Stacy. “My husband’s a 6’5” manly man but every day he’d call several times throughout the day to check up on our baby because he was so worried. It really touched my heart.”
Peanut ended up recovering so wonderfully that he continues to touch the hearts of the Green family every single day. “He’s really a very funny cat,” said Stacy. “He’s very calm and quiet and we think he’s like Thurston Howell from Gilligan’s Island because he acts like he’s very upper crust. He tries to avoid our kids because they’re too noisy, so he only really bonds with my husband and me. He’s a good cat and we wouldn’t trade him for the world. That was a really bad time and I was so glad that the Angel Fund existed and helped us.”
