Baby of the Family

Eight years ago, Deedra and her family were looking to add to their family. She and her son already had a pug named Petra, and they thought it be nice to get another pet so they could be companions to one another. They spotted an attractive ad in the local PennySaver advertising for a pug puppy or a poodle puppy. On the way there, Deedra jokingly asked her son if he wanted yet another pug, and sure enough, when they arrived, her son promptly chose the pug and named him, Baby.
Even though Deedra heard that it’s not recommended to introduce animals right away to one another, she skipped that step and Petra and Baby became fast, close friends. Baby definitely lived up to his name and quickly became the cuddliest little creature in the family. Not being able to bear being alone, Baby, followed Deedra and her son from room to room, laying his head down on their laps when they sat, and talking the entire time. As a matter of fact, Baby’s pretty famous in his neighborhood for his constant talking, and he’ll strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
As the years passed, Baby started having seizures. Deedra took him to their vet, Timothy Metzger, DVM, at the Rainbow Vet Hospital to be treated, and was given medication for him. The medication helped, and life went on as usual for a while. Then one day, Baby started having seizures and didn’t stop having them, even after Deedra administered Baby’s medicine as directed. “It was just awful,” she remembered, “I’d never seen anything like it before. He had one seizure after another and it seemed as if he just couldn’t recover before the next one would hit.”
Panicked, Deedra rushed Baby back to the vet and learned Baby would need to be hospitalized to receive the proper treatment. When told how much it was going to cost, Deedra’s heart sank because she knew she couldn’t afford to pay for it on her own. It was such frantic time that she doesn’t remember much, but what she does remember is that when she learned about the Angel Fund, she truly felt as if an angel had touched their lives. With the Angel Fund’s help, Baby was able to get the care he needed and stayed at the hospital for a couple of days to recover.
“They took such good care of him,” said Deedra. “After his first treatment, we saw him lying down and he had one paw tucked in like he usually does, and he looked so much better with his ears all perked up. Every time we visited him over those two days he looked better and better.”
Deedra said they’ve never yet stopped having a homecoming party for Baby and celebrate his recovery every day. “I’d like to thank the Angel Fund for the opportunity they’ve given to Baby to be the wonderful joy he is to everyone who knows him and especially to us. We’re so glad to still have him in our lives.”
